  1. How does it work?

With Just the Thing setting up a unique Wedding or Party Website is quick and easy.  Build a unique Gift List with just a few clicks; it’s even quicker if you use our gift packages to get you started.  Once your site is ready, let friends and family know all about it with a direct email link from your Member’s Area or pop a notification card in with your invitations.


Guests can visit your site at anytime to keep up-to-date with plans for the big day.  As your Gift List has been chosen by you, guests will be sure to get you “Just the Thing”!  Printed lists are available for guests who’d rather make their purchase over the phone or by post.


Request payments from your gift account at any time or wait until the big day for a lump-sum payment.  All payments are secure so you can rest assured that customer and guests’ details will never be stored nor shared with other companies.

 

  1. How much does it cost?

Unlike other gift list services, we never charge a set-up fee so you can register and get started right away.  If you don’t like the look of your Wedding or Party Website, you can edit it (or cancel it anytime before your guests begin to make purchases). 


Building your website is free and we will host it at no charge.  Your site will stay live until three months after your big event (or longer by arrangement - just let us know what you need).   We will automatically set up your Thank You Album so you can post pictures and messages for loved ones.  The only costs you will incur will be a small admin fee deducted from any completed items on your gift list.  That way you can set your list up and even have your guests pay the admin fee for you.  It’s completely up to you.

  1. What is the service fee?

Registering with Just the Thing eliminates other typical registry costs, such as shipping and gift-wrapping charges. Just the Thing ultimately saves your guests time and money with the comfort and convenience of purchasing a gift from their home or office. It’s a great way for loved ones in different time zones to feel included on your special day.  Also, it eliminates the stress and embarrassment of returning or exchanging unwanted gifts.

 

We deduct a low 7.5% fee for gift contributions to cover administration costs.  This small charge is less than most guests would usually spend on a card,  gift wrap and delivery charges for a traditional gift.  (For a typical gift of £50, our processing fee is £3.75 - this is what most other companies charge for credit card fees alone)  It is also the lowest service charge currently available for this type of service in the United Kingdom.


You can even decide whether you would like our fee to be deducted from your final gift account total or have your guests pay the service fee as a discrete addition to the price of each gift.

  1. Where does the money go?

As items are purchased from your gift list, payments are held in a secure and dedicated client account with the Lloyds TSB Bank of London.  As soon as you are ready to request a payment, the amount will be transferred from your secure Just the Thing Gift Account to your own bank account electronically, or paid by cheque. 


As your money is held in a dedicated client account, similar to the account your solicitor uses to hold and transfer funds during the purchase or sale or a property.  This ensures you 100% safety and security.  Your gift fund will never be accessed for the running or promotion of www.JusttheThing.co.uk.  


Sadly, many couples lost  thousands of pounds back in 2008 because Wrapit.co.uk did not hold their customers' funds in a dedicated client account facility.  This can never happen to you with www.JusttheThing.co.uk


While many clients prefer to wait until their registry is closed to receive the sum of their account, it is completely up to you.  If you need to book or pay for things in advance of the big day, just request an advanced payment from you account. You will NEVER be charged for money transfers; it's your money and you can access any time you need it.

  1. What if we’ve already paid for our Honeymoon?

Plenty of couples book and pay for their honeymoon in advance; your gift account is yours to do with what you wish.  You can always list some unique experiences for your honeymoon to make it extra special.  If you’ve already paid for your flights, why not ask your guests to pay for an upgrade?  If you’ve already booked your hotel room, why not ask for a suite?  Don’t forget all those extras which loved ones would love to buy you – Romantic Sunset Dinners, Jet Ski Adventures, and Breakfast in Bed.  It’s completely up to you! 

 

  1. Can you help us put ideas together for our Gift Registry?

Absolutely!  Why not use some of our ready-made packages to get you started?  Just click on one, or more, to add it to your registry.  You can always edit or delete individual items later.  Don’t forget that we’re always at hand for help and advice.  Just drop us a line or phone to speak to a helpful member of the team.

 

  1. Do we have to book our Honeymoon or buy our items through you?

Absolutely not!  We are proud to be an independent Gift Registry Service.  This means that we do not represent any travel operators, nor do we receive any commission for referred business from third parties.  That way, couples (or individuals) have complete freedom to use their Gift Account funds however they wish.  Use your own travel agent or scour the internet for the best deals, it’s completely up to you!

 

  1. How do we let friends and family know we’re registered?

As soon as you finish your website, you will be taken to the Member's Area.   From your Address Book you can invite anyone to visit your site with a direct link.  You can also keep your guests up-to-date with ongoing party and wedding plans; send as many emails as you like whenever you like. Again, details stored here are completely secure and your guests will never receive unwanted spam, nor will we pass on details to third parties.


In addition, we can provide you with notification cards which are usually included with your wedding or party invitations.  These stylish cards provide your guests with details of how they can access your website directly.


Finally, guests do not have to go through us to get to you!  Remember, you will have your own unique URL. Pass this on to whoever you like so they can check out your stunning new website.

  1. What if my guests don’t use a computer?

No problem!  Don’t forget that your Registry Notification Cards have our details; guests can get in touch with us directly for full gift list details.  Alternately, with just one click, you can print out a paper copy of your gift list to go in their invitations.  This will include details of how they can purchase their gifts via post or over the phone.  If you need any help with this just contact us.

 

  1. What if I don’t want just anyone looking at my site?

At Just the Thing we respect and will work hard to protect your privacy.    For your guests to view your site they will have to enter your surname correctly.  Should you wish to further password protect your website, we can arrange this free of charge.  However, you should remember that you don’t want to make to too difficult for your loved ones to see your stunning new site.

 

  1. How do I find my friend’s website?

If you’ve received a recent invitation to a wedding or party, you can find your friend or family member’s site by going to the Find a List page.  From here enter the surname of one of your hosts. 

You might find that their site is password protected; this information should be included inside your invitation.  If you have any problems contact us.

 

  1. Can’t I buy them a gift from a shop instead?

It’s completely up to you, however the beauty of a gift list is that it prevents guests buying duplicate items, it also saves the embarrassment of having to return unwanted gifts.   When you buy a gift for your friend or family member through their  “Just the Thing” website, their list is automatically updated so that no duplicates can be purchased.  If you buy a listed item directly from a shop it is likely that another guest will purchase the same item from the official Gift List so the couple will receive the same gift twice.

 

  1. Is this site secure? Is it safe to use my credit card online?

Yes this site is secure and it is safe to use your credit card. Your payment details are encrypted and processed via a secure and independent payment provider, ensuring that your details are never taken nor stored by any other party.  Card details are encrypted before travelling on the internet. This is an industry standard for secure online transactions and ensures your credit card details remain private and secure. Guests can pay online, over the phone or by post using credit card, switch, direct deposit, cheque, money order or Paypal if they prefer

  1. What currencies do you support?

While we are a UK-based company,  Just the Thing allows you the flexibility of setting up your gift list in Pounds Sterling, Euro, US Dollars, Australian Dollars or New Zealand Dollars.  We will always try our very best to suit your needs. 

 

For gift lists operating in Pounds Sterling, your guests can pay for gifts from anywhere in the world using a credit, debit or switch card, cheque or postal order.  As soon as you are ready to receive your first payments from your Gift Account, these will be paid into your UK bank account, (or by cheque) in UK Pounds Sterling.

 

Customers who wish to set up a gift account in a currency other than UK Pounds Sterling will need to provide details of a valid Paypal account where gift account payments can be paid.  This will allow us to receive, hold and pay funds to you in your local currency, and will allow you to avoid any of the arbitrary international currency conversion rates or fees set by your local bank.

 

Just the Thing presently supports the following currencies:  Euro, United States Dollars, Australian Dollars, New Zealand Dollars.

  1. How do I find out what my guests have bought me?

It is completely up to you if you would like to know who has purchased each gift during the course of your registry.  If you would like gifts to remain a surprise until the big day, just click this option during the sign up process.  Alternately, you can opt to receive regular email updates as items are purchased from your list.


When your Gift Registry closes, you will be sent a complete list of the items bought and their purchasers.  That way you can be sure your thank-you cards are correct.  Alternately, you might like to take advantage of our free online Thank You Album.  Post pictures and messages to all of your guests to let them know how much their contribution has meant to you.

 

  1. Ho do I find out how much money is in my Gift Account?

You can access information on your Gift Account at any time online by visiting the “Member’s Area” and following the link to your Gift Account.  Alternately, you can contact our customer services team at Enquiries@justthething.co.uk during office hours.

 

  1. How do I request a payment from my Gift Account?

Go to the Member’s Area and sign in.  From there you can visit your Gift Account.  You will see your totals and a quick “Request Payment” button.  Enter the amount you’d like paid to you and we will organise it.  No need to follow it up with a separate email, the request comes straight to our customer services department.

 

Don't forget that you can request payments any time you wish.  If you need to pay for things before the Big Day, just request funds as they come into your account.  Unlike our competitors, we provide unlimited transfers at no additional cost.

 

  1. When can I get hold of Just the Thing customer services?

We’re in the office week days between 8.30am and 6pm.  Should you need help outside of office hours, drop us an email on the Contact Us page and we’ll make sure you get back to you as soon as possible.  If you’re requesting a payment, just hit the request payment button from your “Gift Account” you don't need to call us.  You could always check out the other FAQ’s in case we’ve already thought of it.

  1. How long can I see my website for?

Your website will stay active until well after your party or wedding date.  The day after your wedding or party, we will automatically set up your Thank You Album ready for you to post pictures and thank you messages for friends and family.   Should you need to leave your site active for longer, or if you’d like a copy of your website for a keep-sake just drop us a line and we can arrange this also.

Your guests will be able to purchase gifts from your site for up to 4 weeks after your Big Day.  If you'd like this date to be altered, just drop us a line and we can tailor our service to meet you needs.


 

  1. What if I want to keep a copy of my site?

You can download a free high-resolution PDF copy of your website and gift list by clicking on the "Download" tool in your website menu.  This can be saved or printed out any time you need.

 

  1. What happens if the party of Wedding is cancelled or postponed?

If your wedding is postponed, we will simply adjust the end date for your website.  In the unfortunate event that a wedding or party is cancelled, we will work closely with you to close your gift account.  If gifts have already been purchased by your guests, we will work closely with you to alert guests to the cancellation and arrange refunds for all purchases.  Should you have already withdrawn funds from your Gift Account, it will be your responsibility to return gifts to your guests as you see fit.
